Come Fly With Me

Okay I cannot even explain how amazing the past two days have been.
Seriously, I'm so blessed.

About a month ago, I received some information about an upcoming audition here in Salt Lake City for a contemporary dance gig choreographed by Bonnie Story (emmy award winning choreographer who also choreographed on the High School Musical trilogy and is based right here out of Utah). Bonnie assistant was actually out of town for the audition and her agent knows me well and told her about me so she called me in a few days before the audition and asked me to assist her by learning the piece beforehand to get out all the kinks and make sure there was someone else that could run it with the groups. So I did and the choreography was beautiful and the audition went so well! So about a week after that Bonnie called again and asked if I'd perform in the gig! Of course I took the job! :D Not only am I gaining an amazing connection with Bonnie, but I get paid (really well) to do what I love to do! We started rehearsals yesterday and the piece is absolutely gorgeous! Seriously it's about soaring and going above and beyond and it's so inspirational I just love it! NOT TO MENTION THE DANCERS ARE INSANE! Let me just tell you who I'm so blessed to be working with:
Bonnie Story, as previously mentioned, who has worked on: the High School Musicals and with Odyssey Dance Theatre AND she's the biggest sweetheart and so humble.
Ben Susak: So You Think You Can Dance Season 2, Odyssey Dance Theatre, Dancer for Wade Robson, Britney Spears' Dancer and soooo much more feel free to watch his amazing video from Erica Sobol's class below- he'll blow you away. not to mention he's the funniest, silliest, and nicest person :)
Haylee Roderick: just look at her amazing bio. seriously -  a current dancer on the hit TV show GLEE, principle dancer on the feature film High School Musical 3, The GLEE Live Tour, The 82nd Academy Awards and was a featured performer in the production“ Dancing under the Stars”. Haylee has trained with some of the best choreographers in the country such as Kenny Ortega, Chucky Klapow, Brooke Lipton and Zach Woodlee. She has won numerous national dance competitions such as the Hollywood Connection National Icon Award. Haylee continues her life long passion for dance by training with the industries top choreographers in Hollywood. She currently is on the April 2011 cover of “Dance Spirit Magazine”. unbelievable. oh and don't worry, she's got the biggest heart too. always hugging and smiling. man i love her.
Michael Stein: just an Edge Scholarship Alumni from 2009-2010 (the year before me), Gina Starbuck's dancer, a member of Adam Parson's company, dancer for Jeri Slaughter (who was one of Janet's dancers!!), and seriously so much more- and he's only been off scholarship for a year. he's brilliant seriously!
Christian Denice: Bonnie's amazing assistant, Odyssey Dance Theatre, River North Dance Company in Chicago. he's sooooooo incredible!!
Jeff Wolfe: River North Dance Company with Christian, and a whole bunch of other stuff from the East coast- he's just too modest to talk about it all but he's such a little cutie! best partner ever this kid is!
Bayli Baker: Bonnie's daughter, goes to UNLV right now on their dance program, was in High School Musical, and is absolutely sensational.
I really could go on for days about all of them but you should just watch the videos instead.

oh ben. you still amaze me.

haylee, just the cutest. seriously.

and everyone else is just as brilliant. i'm soooooo inspired and grateful!
Our show is on friday- don't worry it's inside the Energy Solutions Arena downtown Salt Lake.. you know just in front of an estimated amount of 18,000 people! THAT'S THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE. holy toledo, this is still surreal. I guess moving home from LA didn't really get me out of the performance spotlight after all ;)

what adventures have you been up to? who's inspired you? what obstacles have you tackled lately?
Have a great rest of your week kidlings! xoxo

They Say It's Wonderful

Happy sunday! and what a SUN(filled)day it was!
Today I went to Stake Conference with some super cute girls from my singles ward! it was SO GOOD! Elaine S. Dalton and David A. Bednar spoke! :D they're two of my personal favorites! oh it seriously was so great! And we got to walk around downtown after (mostly because we had to park so far away since there's so many of us in Utah..) and the fall colors and sunny skies were just gorgeous! So i took some pictures!
This is Tristan- she lives literally two seconds from me and is just the sweetest! so glad we can carpool :)

and these two great gorgeous girls are Shanae and Hannah- seriously how do i have such great friends?

After, i just couldn't get over how gorgeous the weather was so I took advantage of it and took my dog on a walk.. then took some more pictures. i just couldn't resist!

look at that tree! those colors. ugh i'm dying!

looook at that puppy!! just the cutest!

that's barlo, my bassett hound. he's one of the cutest dogs I know, especially when he's sleeping next to you, dreaming about chasing something haha. the best part about him is when he comes down the stairs towards you, his wrinkles cover his whole face making him look just so funny :D but the worst part about him is he barks at EVERY SINGLE PERSON. which wouldn't be so annoying but he never stops. oh and he used to eat socks. gross i know.
after my walk i sat in the park by my house for a bit and wrote in my journal for a while. honestly just sitting in the middle of a huge grassy field with no one around in the midafternoon-sun is probably one of my favorite things to do. i like to bask in all of God's glory- His creations still simply amaze me even after being on this earth for 20 years. My goodness this world we live in is just fantastic.

Oh and as for my saturday- no worries there's a super awesome package coming in the mail for me in a couple weeks (more on that later obviously) annnnnnnd i got asked out on a super cute date by a super cute boy who just got home from his mission in Honduras about a week and a half ago. Don't worry, we went for ice cream, took it to the temple, played a bit of tagged, danced around, gazed at the view of the Salt Lake Valley and simply told about a million stories.. his were mostly in Spanish. and i loved every second :) thanks for such a great night great boy! i'm seriously so lucky to be here where there are cute boys who also believe in the same things as i do. yes yes yes!
my week to come will be a very busy one sooo be looking for random posts that'll explain my not-so-little upcoming adventures!
How was your weekend? any endeavors of your own? did you enjoy the weather? meet anyone inspiring? conquer anything incredible? i'm sure you did! go ahead and tell me about it!

Until we meet again my sweetbugs!

My Girl

WOW i'm seriously behind!
catch up time again:
my whole week has just been busyyyyyy! so sunday miss emma came over and we had a blast! just laughing and rolling around on the floor and not really working and church was great and then we went to provo where we caught up with the roommates, the kids downstairs, and nelson and tanner! oh i just love all those kids! monday, tuesday, and wednesday I taught some classes and actually didn't go to the temple wednesday morning because i got home from class late on tuesday :( good news about tuesday though! Allie one of my other cute best friends came over and we just sat and talked for forever! it was so wonderful! oh and i was handsewing my comforter while she was there.. it's not even a quarter of the way done. i may just give in and sew it with a machine over the weekend. thursday I taught a girl her contemporary dance solo and i absolutely love it! it's so good and she's beautiful so i'm really proud of myself and her for that! :D thennnnn i taught another class before going to 80s NIGHT! yahoo!! i went and picked up emma and topher and josh (they're two guys i actually only sort of knew but now we're all great friends so it's cool- they're in the club now :) ) and then we snagged Alpal and boom! we're downtown salt lake mixing and mingling and dancing the night away. oh it was the best! seriously. i'm sad i didn't take more pictures but it rocked- just know it did. I felt a little Molly Ringwald-ish so I attempted to take in a skirt from the DI and wear it but it just wouldn't do for that kind of insanity so the skirt will now be shortened and probably worn on sunday to church. It's so cute- emerald green with buttons down the front! I'm sort of having a green fetish lately.. it's a good fall color i think!

NOW on to today:
I finished Brianna's solo this morning, went to the temple in the afternoon! but it was a NEW temple today! well for me it was- the Jordan River Temple! oh SOOOOOO beautiful! and so packed haha it was great! and such a cool thing- there's an organist playing in the little waiting area! how amazing is that! then after I came back home to make some home made spinach-artichoke dip- sour cream, spinach, artichokes, mozzarella, parmesan, couple of those little laughing cow cheese slices and you get a little mashed slice of heaven!- and then i went off to teach one of my contemporary classes that anyone can come to! and guess who came MY FRIEND TESS HEWLETT FROM LA! man she's the greatest! it was the best surprise! so we danced a little then i sewed some pants and viola! wonderful day!

this is the Jordan River Temple. It's exceptionally beautiful. And today looked much like this so i was as happy as this --> :D

here's my pants! i originally bought some sweats at walmart and was like "huh i want more cute sweats like they sell all over LA since they were a big deal in europe not too long ago..." and presto! i sewed these bad boys in AND made pockets! nice! :)

alright well i'm off to bed but i promise i'll have more tomorrow! and hopefully some sort of new early thanksgiving present to myself.. trick or treat right? :)
goodnight my sugar dumplings!

The Way You Do The Things You Do

success!
my bookshelf and dresser both came out fabulously! :D my room is definitely not finished but here's a little sneak peak for your viewing pleasure:
once a boring white bookshelf and a separate brown shelving unit
now a light green super bookcase  structure!
cost: $12 for spray paint at walmart, shelves free from mom :)

Before: a boring wall and plain brown dresser
now a bright, vintage looking dresser with great accessories!
cost: $12 spray paint at walmart, $10 for the clock, $10 for the Eiffel Tower and Empire State Building pictures together, small drawer set was free from mom!

don't they just look too great for words?? :D i'm honestly so proud of myself because i really didn't think they'd turn out this well! but it's all coming together! can't wait to show you all the rest of the pieces!

I still need to work on my comforter but i'm thrilled about the bright teal color sheets i bought to sew together and the diy lace buttons that i'll put on it to make all the blankets and stuffing stay together! I also still need to put up those thrift store picture frames with quotes or pictures in each one and then i have an idea for something to put around my mirror too but i'm wondering how much i'll really be able to get done over the next couple days! my goal is to have it finished by tuesday! i can do it though- i mean i've already done so much in just two days i think a couple more will be plenty :) plus, my bestfriendloversisterforeverandever aka miss emma vidmar is coming over tomorrow for a playdate/ laundry day/ assisting the room renovation! she's so artsy and indie, it'll be a cinch with her :)) i can't wait!
today mostly what i did was work and laugh around with jasmine which is always the best of course! I came home and cleaned more of my room and set up these lovely pieces before taking a nap... for four hours. i came upstairs and my mom said i should've just stayed asleep so i would've slept from like 6 pm til 8 am tomorrow morning. i didnt think that was a good idea so i woke up for some celery and peanut butter instead :) and to write in my blog of course! priorities priorities mother!

i thought i'd write down a couple more things about myself- some things that i absolutely love so i'm not such a stranger!

  • i'm obsessed with any point from 1942-1969. The fashion, the music, the camaraderie between everyone, the amazing discoveries and inventions. Think about it: everyone was still dressing up wearing pencil skirts and heels, with curled hair and men were always in suits with hats and cute ties! every day. not just every once in a while and everyone just treated each other much better. plus there was the record player, the trip to the moon, the invention of motown, Pearl Harbor (which i know wasn't the best thing ever but it made our country even stronger!) and elvis and so much dancing! i could go on for hours.
  • i love food. it's a problem really- it's my best friend and my worst enemy and i know i need to just relax about it but i just love it so much! making a big fresh salad with mangoes and strawberries and spinach, maybe some grilled chicken and crushed cinnamon almonds! yum! but then there's the ever so wonderful and irresistible cookie dough packed ice cream from my best friends ben and jerry. again, see the problem? i just can't help it :)
  •  i adore broadway shows and musicals. i would stay at home watching fred astaire and ginger rodgers dance and sing all day if i could. bing crosby, syd charisse- they're real triple threats! no one has that kind of talent nowadays. and don't even get me started on all the musicals: west side story, hairspray, lion king, rent, guys and dolls, my fair lady, wicked! ugh. again, obsessed.
  • bags and sunglasses. for some reason, i basically collect those. no matter how many of either one i have, i seem to just keep having a need for more! but i love them! for bags i seem to always be drawn to brown, even though honestly most of my closet is in coordination with black but i'm learning to put brown and black together so it's not so much a problem anymore. and with sunglasses- i just think i have a cute face for them and my eye doctor said i need to wear them because my eyes are weaker in sunlight so i figure that gives me an excuse to by a ton of pairs! :D
  • i have a lot to say. and i always take twenty million years to say it. i like words, and i like expressing myself which is why i like dance so much i think because it finally gives me a chance to not talk and just get it all out.
this is so long, i'm sorry. i'm going to bed i promise :)
what have you conquered today? did you have a great time doing something or meeting someone?
goodnight my little ones! great cheers, zero fears!

All Shook Up

time to catch up!

Wednesday:
Oh the middle day of the week- normally my least favorite but this week's was absolutely splendid! I went to the beautiful Salt Lake Temple with a few friends of mine who go every wednesday morning because that's when it's the least busy! and by morning i mean 6 am. but it was seriously so stunning still and honestly it was great to be up and going the rest of the day! I went grocery shopping and got gas after heading back home then I took some clothes to sell at plato's closet -and bought some which i definitely wasn't supposed to but i couldn't resist of course :) - then i went home for some lunch and made homemade pretzels with wheat flour! yummmmmmy! then of course I taught my classes until ten and came home for some much needed sleep!
ugh. just too magnificent. 40 years to build, 40 years of the utmost faith in the Lord, and an infinite number of years lives will be changed from this one building. Goodness, I sure do love this gospel so very very much.

thursday:
this morning I taught my girls on Riverton High School's Drill team then i went to a mission prep class! students were teaching people about the gospel as if they were real missionaries and i got to observe! it was so fun and honestly really makes me want to go on a mission- definitely something that has crossed my mind quite a bit. I talked to Brother Osbourne (who was teaching the class) for like an hour after and he was so wonderful. he talked to me about my future and following the Lord, preparing for whatever is to come. He said the mission prep class was a good fit for me whether I end up going on a mission or not because it really teaches you about teaching people and of course it teaches you more about the gospel so either way i'm just excited to be in the class and excited to talk more with Brother Osbourne. He certainly was an influence to me, so a big thanks to him.
After that i went to the D.I. thrift store, bought two skirts and shirts (that i will refashion on a later date) along with a couple super cute suitcases and about ten picture frames that will be awesome decor for my room :) and then took two ballet classes. yeah my first two in a month and a half and boy my body was just shaking, but it felt sooooo good to get back in. I'm really going to try to go every week. I was a little hard on myself at first, but after I got home i gave myself a little pat on the back for even going and taking class. I heard from a cute girl a little bit ago "even if you just got up and got out, you're further ahead than those who are still sitting in on the couch". I love that :) so all in all, today was again just great!

friday:
today, oh today. I slept in a little later than usual- for some reason I was up late last night and could not stop thinking about how i wanted to decorate my room. I kept finding things and saying to myself "oh i could take that and put it there- and change that! ooooh and maybe put fabric over that!" and pretty soon before i knew it, it was two hours later and my ideas were just bursting! so this morning i woke up with a mission: get everything i needed to make my ideas become reality :) and off to walmart i went! I got 8 cans of spray paint for my bookshelf and my dresser, a few new sheets- two to put over my existing comforter to make a new one and then the other for underneath-, red curtains, a bundle of buttons, some lace, a picture frame, and a picture of the eiffel tower and the empire state building which honestly tok me quite a while because i had to decide on colors and everything still. today it was so sunny outside so i painted my bookshelf and the dresser and i'm thinking about starting my comforter tonight! i can't wait for my room to be all cute! and because my mom won't let me paint the walls, everything else has a ton of color :) i love it! i'll put up some before and after pictures hopefully by monday! my body is definitely sore today from painting and from taking class- i'm definitely glad i pushed myself though! all i need to do is keep it up!

how has your week been? what have you conquered? who has influenced you?
until next time sweetbugs!

Tutti Frutti

Today was just lovely! And the goodness is still going! :)
I made the best dinner tonight! I've been trying to mix more greens into my diet, but salads are just getting old so finding new ways to mix in more veggies and today I made a sort of.. dip i guess? In my food processor i put a bit of mango, red bell pepper, kale (a type of lettuce), cucumber, and half a peach! I mixed them to the point where they were chopped and mixed together without being like a soup then i put  it on top of a wasa cracker which is like a large multigrain cracker with only 45 calories! it was all so delicious and colorful i couldn't resist taking a picture :D

soooooooooooo yummy! also so yummy was eating my lovely dinner with a great girl from my studio- Anne Marie, what a doll!

Now I'd like to take some time to write about a girl who has completely changed my life:
Her name is jasmine white. she is a dancer like me- we actually met at dance about three years ago and we've just been best friends ever since. she was actually a huge missionary to me as well- she gave me a copy of her scriptures to read when I was first learning about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and would always talk to me about any questions I had. We seriously have had some of the funniest moments I can remember and whenever I'm with her, I never stop laughing! Even though she's two years younger than me, I feel like I have more in common with her than almost anyone else that I've ever met! she came to LA to visit me over the summer after a crazy year and she seriously was one of the best parts of my life in Hollywood. she's just this brilliant, generous, funny person and she's so determined in like everything in life. she's so mature for her age and i seriously just can't get enough of her! she always brightens my day and she will always be there when i want a night of ice cream and cookie dough :) i absolutely love her. and i know you will too.

she's the highlight of my day. and such an influential person in my life. i just love her!

who influences you? how was your day? what things did you absolutely love?
well goodnightgoodnight sweet sugar plums!

Say A Little Prayer

The Book Of Mormon
this is my favorite book of all time and the most honest and true book i've ever read. it has immensely altered my life and i'm more grateful for this book and the bible than any other books on this earth. yes, I'm a mormon, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as of August 15, 2009, and i promise i know the difference between having pride in my religion and being proud. I'm a daughter of a wonderful Heavenly Father and I'm not going to hold that in as if i'm frightened because realizing that has made me the better person I am today and hopefully every day after. I love this church aaaaand
i absolutely adore sundays.
especially the first sunday of every month because at church we have a big meeting where members go up to the stand and bear witness of Heavenly Father; Our Savior, Jesus Christ; the Holy Ghost; and the overall truth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. today was my first meeting like that at my new ward since I've been back from Los angeles and it was so nice to see that people from all over the country- and the world for that matter- have such strong sensations and testimonies that this church is true and that it has greatly impacted their lives for the better. And I couldn't agree more! there was a theme today i believe about knowing that God listens to each one of us and knows each one of us personally- better than we know ourselves- and that He has a specific and correct timing for everything to occur but it's on His time, not ours. We must have the patience and diligence in enduring through our trials in order to gain the blessings that He has waiting for us. "faith is an action word, not a noun." So completely true. Goodness, I love this gospel.

On these days we also fast for two meals as well and so tonight for dinner I made something totally delicious!
so delicious, nutritious- and simple! carrots, broccoli, onions, asparagus, olive oil, a little garlic powder just blended together and stir-fried with some ham from mom :) look at all those fantastic colors! oh it makes me want to go eat some more! :D

today brought oodles of good stuff: the sun was out today which already gave me a big smile on my face, everyone was so nice and friendly at church today i think i met at least ten new people and probably will have at least five new best friends by the end of the week! they all seriously rock :) I came home and lounged around finishing up a couple things for work (mostly picking out new music for dance recital pieces! seriously so fun!), then came that wonderful dinner from above and now i'm heading to bed very shortly and much earlier than usual! this wonderwoman has a full day ahead tomorrow! and i can't wait to write all about it!
what was great about your day today? anyone specific influence you? anything you feel super awesomely enthusiastic about- accomplishments or new experiences you had?

until tomorrow my cutie kabooties,
goodnight kisses &sweet dream wishes!

The Way You Look Tonight

Why good evening lovelies!
Today was absolutely fabulous! First: for lunch I had this brilliant homemade panini sandwich:
  • turkey
  • a bit of guacamole as spread
  • mozzarella
  • mixture of lettuce and other green leaves
  • tomatoes
  • cucumbers
  • sara lee whole wheat bread (pure wheat flour! not enriched! thanks mom:))
Doesn't that sound scrumptious?? I put it in my little George Foreman Grilling machine for about five minutes after adding a pinch of basil and seriously it was like a gourmet sandwich, especially after i put honeydew as a little side dish. yum yum yum!

Tonight, I finally taught my first adult contemporary class to two of the most lovely ladies I have ever met! A small class but so much fun and brilliance nonetheless :) Hopefully at some point I can even put up a video of it to show you because it really was just magnificent! My goal is to have at least five students in my class by the end of the month and to keep growing after that and I know i'm well on my way! Goodness I'm super blessed. It was a real experience working with them too because actually both the girls- or i should actually say ladies- were a bit older than me which certainly made me nervous at first but then when i noticed them enjoying the choreography i was able to relax and enjoy myself as well! Can't wait for my next opportunity to teach! :D

Yesterday, I went on a little shopping spree with my Emma and i found some of THE cutest stuff and greatest deals ever! So here's a little preview in a very early-60s-Audrey-Hepburn-inspired sort of way! Enjoy!
Earrings: Forever 21,   Necklace: Bridesmaids' Present,   Flats: Target

Bag: Thrifted,   Red Gap Pants: Thrifted,   Trench Coat: Target,   Ring: Forever 21

I am in love with this whole outfit- especially the pants! I found them two years ago at the DI for 4 dollars and they're originally from the Gap! They're so cute and high waisted but they were a boot cut before and that just would not do so i sewed them in and cropped them (to the perfect length I might add)! I hope there's a nice fall day up ahead so I can actually wear this other than in my basement.. :)

What did your day bring? Who influenced you? How did you make a difference?
Hope it was just peachy keen jelly bean! I'm out of here for a night of wonderful beauty sleep!
Bear Hugs and eskimo kisses!
Loves Hayley Lynn

ps: everyone should get a trench coat- i've never felt more like a secret agent or private investigator in my whole life! :D it's absolutely wonderful!

Hey Baby

Well hello official blogging world! This is a brand new start for me so I'd first like to explain why I'm creating this blog: not only was I inspired by my best friend Emma Vidmar, but I have been inspired by many many other bloggers who have honestly motivated me to become better and I can only hope to do the same for others with my own written thoughts. I am at a point in my life (like many others I know) where I am trying to "find" myself, figure out who I really am and want to become; however, I realized today that if I'm attempting to find who I am then that means I once lost who I was! Um, scary. Then I came across this quote:

Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.

That's from George Bernard Shaw. He's brilliant- he's written a few things you know, like that play Pygmalion that "My Fair Lady" is based off of. Yeah, you should read it, it's good, and obviously this guy knows what he's talking about, I mean that quote explains everything really.

ANYWAY- I just wanted to start a blog to allow myself (and whoever decides to read whatever I choose to write about) to appreciate what I have each day- what experiences I go through and how I handle each one, what people affect my life and how they change me, what challenges I come to and conquer, what new ideas cross my mind and are actually fulfilled in reality! Each day brings something new, something to help create the "you" you will become and now's the time to focus on each thing however monumental or minuscule they seem!

I plan to post about adventures I go through on a day to day basis. Now, whether that means I'll be sewing a dress from the DI/ Goodwill to make it look actually wearable OR posting a new awesome healthy baking recipe OR a new dance video OR simply a spiritual scripture or thought or event that really impacted me OR maybe just share a story about a person I really have no idea! I just know I will be posting about something lovely that happened to me each day and I can't wait to start this new adventure in order to begin many many more!

Smile, you're beautiful- look at you you're seriously radiating with glamour! Now go out and get the world and find what you appreciate most because it makes you YOU! Let me know what you think! I love comments and feedback :)

With bundled bundles of love,
Hayley Lynn

ps: the title to each post is actually going to be a song from the 1950s or 60s considering those really were when the cutest songs were created. "Hey Baby" was sang by Bruce Channel- you can find it on the "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack and buy it on itunes if you want something great to snap to ever :) enjoy!
